Be a Black Belt In The Content Arena
Media Skills are survival skills in the war for Our student’s minds!
When you think of martial arts, you probably imagine a student starting as a white belt and working their way up to black belt, mastering different techniques and forms along the way. What if we applied that same concept to media literacy and film making? Imagine if we taught kids to become content creators just as we teach them to master martial arts. We would be confident that they had a clue as to how to participate and survive in their media saturated world.
In today's digital age, media literacy and film making skills are becoming increasingly important for our youngest students to have.
With the rise of social media and the prevalence of video content, kids need to be able to create, analyze, and understand media in order to stay sharp and aware. However, for many teachers, teaching media literacy can seem daunting, especially if they don't have experience in film making themselves.
What if we taught content creation and visual literacy skills how the martial arts does?
Under a sensei’s tutelage, students would progress through the levels, they'll be able to demonstrate their mastery. It would be a fun, interactive way for kids to learn and grow, both individually and as a group. Most of all, it would be a great way for them to build self-esteem and confidence.
